Oh, how I love the ballet
One winter’s day, I went out to run some errands and do a bit of shopping. By sheer good luck, I ended up outside the Cineplex Odeon South Keys theatre. The Bolshoi Ballet was dancing — on film, of course, not live. I called Peter and told him that I was going to stay and watch the show. I was so excited.
Russian ballet is different from Italian ballet (Cecchetti). Russian ballet features high extensions and dynamic turns (think Rudolph Nureyev), whereas Italian ballet tends to be more grounded, with a focus on fast, intricate footwork. When I took ballet, we learned both methods, emphasizing Cecchitti.
It was a wonderful afternoon!
