Goodbye, Cookie, our little sweetheart

Cookie, our Bichon Frisé.
June 30, 2004-December 2, 2017

It was a cold and snowy winter night on December 2, 2017, when our little Cookie said goodbye to us.

She had had a tough life, with chronic illnesses, multiple surgeries, and an endless supply of medications. But, through it all, she persevered and took life as it came. Peter and I adored her and wrapped her in love every day of her life and she loved us right back.

She was a pretty calm and laid-back girl, happy to lie on the sofa and watch us.
She always curled up beside me when I sat in my favourite chair in the living room. We were so cozy together.

On the night of December 2, Peter and I felt desperate. We knew it was the end, but we wanted so much to hold onto her a little longer. But, it was not to be. Finally, I called the Alta Vista Animal Hospital and told them that we would be bringing her in. I wrapped her in warm blankets and held her in my arms as Peter drove. When we arrived at the hospital, they had a dimly lit room ready. We sat together on the sofa and hugged Cookie, telling her we loved her and letting her know how much joy she had given us over her thirteen-and-a-half years. And then, the technician came in, and we put Cookie in her arms and said a final goodbye. Peter and I just held on to each other and cried.

That’s the thing about pets, especially dogs: They come into your life and turn it upside down with love, joy, and fun. And, all too soon, they go over the rainbow bridge.

We have such wonderful memories of Cookie, her antics, quirky personality, charms, and wet kisses. We loved her, and she loved us back.

Cookie, you will forever be in my heart.

Farewell, sweet Cookie. God bless you and thank you for being our sweet girl.
